Metallized PET Film under Carton Compression
Nov 06,2026 | FOSHAN CAILONG METALLIC PACKAGING MATERIAL CO.,LTD
A high-barrier laminate can meet its incoming specification and still show a change after it is packed into a tightly loaded shipping carton. metallized PET film is an option for buyers who need strong oxygen and moisture protection in a flexible structure. If carton pressure leaves a lasting ridge or indentation, use samples from that area to establish whether the barrier survived the load.
Cailong's film portfolio lists ultra-high-barrier metallized PET for protective flexible packaging. The brochure distinguishes grades within that family. Select the offered grade and verify its flat-film test basis before planning the package trial. This evaluation addresses the combination of pouch shape, case arrangement and sustained contact during storage.
Find the contact that creates the mark
Open a representative case carefully and photograph the packs before rearranging them. Mark the contact points on the top, middle and bottom layers. A line where a neighboring seal presses against a panel has a different geometry from a broad indentation under a flat pad. Keep the corresponding neighboring pack or carton feature with the sample.
Map marks on the pouch relative to seams, folds and product level. Compare a marked section with a similar unmarked region in the same case. If every pack shows a feature at the same position, review both the case layout and converting process. An incoming sample is useful when a line may have existed before the bag entered the carton.
Separate packing pressure from vibration or impact
Use a trial arrangement that isolates sustained loading where practical. Document carton type, pack count, orientation, support and loading duration. Choose loads and conditioning with the distribution team based on the actual shipment. A brief hand squeeze produces limited evidence about sustained contact at a hard seal edge. Keep the loading arrangement reproducible.
If vibration or impact is relevant, include it in a distinct group or record the sequence of exposures. A change after several exposures may reflect their interaction. A static trial helps locate vulnerable contacts, while a representative distribution trial assesses the complete route. Plan both around questions that the respective setup can answer.
Examine the laminate beneath the visible ridge
Inspect under consistent illumination and record the side viewed. Look at how the affected area recovers after removing the load. The absence of a ridge after recovery may leave a material change invisible to a visual check. Conversely, a visible indentation may reflect deformation of another layer without establishing disruption of the deposited aluminum.
Ask the laboratory how to prepare a coupon that includes the affected region. Keep the feature centered where the method permits and record its size. If the mark is narrow relative to the test area, a broad result may dilute its contribution. Match the test approach to the defect location and the required package evidence.
Select measurements at material and pack scale
Obtain film reference data with the actual grade, gauge, transmission method and conditions. Keep specification limits distinct from representative test values. Compare the exposed and unexposed laminate using the same agreed conditions. Where a laminate result differs, trace the comparison back to the structure and contact geometry instead of assuming a general loss across the roll.
Add finished-pack measurements if the case arrangement could also affect seals or other package features. A localized mark on a panel and a seal channel are different paths into a pack. Ask what the chosen measurement detects and interpret it with the mapped condition of the sample. Keep the units and specimen scale visible in reports.
Trial carton changes before revising the film
Investigate whether the case can support packs without one seal edge bearing against the neighboring pouch face. Consider a different packing orientation, layer arrangement or suitable separator within the approved distribution design. Keep the film and laminate fixed while comparing these options. The result can show whether the contact can be addressed through the case.
If the buyer also wants to compare grades, test them under the same candidate layouts. A more protective flat-film value may matter for the product, but different constructions can respond differently to concentrated contact. Match the sealant and adhesive where the comparison allows. Document any differences that cannot be held constant so the results can be interpreted fairly.
Include the product and the shipping case
Pack stiffness can change with fill volume and the way the product settles. Use an agreed fill and case count that represent production. Record changes in orientation when cartons are moved or stored. Trial cases should represent the intended shipment configuration, including any dividers or liners that influence where loads transfer.
After unloading, sample at the planned times and document any delayed appearance changes. Keep the case location linked to each pouch result. Selecting only the cleanest samples would miss the zones that the evaluation was designed to investigate. Include marks that appeared under conditions the buyer expects to encounter during normal distribution.
Release the package and case as a combination
The qualification record should identify the film grade, laminate, bag format, filling arrangement and shipping layout. Attach photographs of relevant case contacts and include the measured package outcomes. Then establish which changes require review, such as a different pouch count, tighter carton fit or altered seal geometry.
Check whether empty cases from different suppliers have the same internal dimensions and support features. Nominally equivalent cases can load the packs differently if their fit changes. Record the actual case used in the trial and retain its specification with the results so a packaging substitution can be evaluated deliberately.
Ultra-high-barrier metallized PET can be a suitable starting web for demanding packs. A sourcing decision for this problem also depends on how that web is supported through the complete package and shipment. Reviewing the actual contact pattern makes it possible to preserve protection without treating the incoming film specification as the only variable in the case.
