Ploydodecalactam (nylon 12) film

Nylon 12 (PA12) Film / Sheet – Low-Moisture, High-Barrier Specialty Polyamide Film

CaiLong Nylon 12 (PA12) Film and Sheet is a long-chain polyamide film produced by precision extrusion/casting, offering a rare combination among nylons: ultra-low moisture absorption, stable dimensions in humid environments, and strong resistance to oils, fuels and many chemicals — while keeping the toughness and flexibility polyamide is known for. It is positioned for applications where common PA6/PA66 films absorb too much water (causing dimensional drift and property loss), and where a tougher, more chemical-resistant alternative to standard polyester or polyolefin films is required.

Why PA12 film stands apart from other nylons (selection highlights)

  • Lowest density among common nylons (~1.01–1.03 g/cm³) — lightweight without sacrificing strength.

  • Very low water absorption (~0.25% equilibrium level) — parts and films stay dimensionally stable even under humidity/temperature swings where PA6/PA66 would swell or soften.

  • Wide working-temperature envelope: brittle/flexible down to approx. –70°C, usable continuously around 80–90°C (certain conditions higher; verify per structure).

  • Good gas and aroma barrier for a flexible polymer film — suitable as barrier layer in multi-layer laminates for oily, fatty or moisture-sensitive products.

  • Strong chemical resistance profile: excellent against oils, fuels, grease, aliphatic hydrocarbons; good against alcohols and weak alkali/acid; limited against strong oxidizing acids.

  • Self-extinguishing character (generally HB–V2 range by grade; confirm per thickness/cert), with low smoke behavior favorable for transit/industrial environments.

What we supply

  • PA12 film and sheet in a practical thickness range for converting and industrial use (typical film gauges and thicker sheet/plate forms available; confirm current stock gauges on request).

  • Width and roll/sheet format customizable; surface options include gloss, matte or textured finish depending on grade.

  • Convertibility: supports slitting, die-cutting, punching, and lamination into multi-layer barrier structures (PA12 often sits as the tough, chemical-resistant ply in a laminate stack rather than standing completely alone).

Typical application fields

  • High-barrier flexible packaging where oil/fat or aroma control matters: processed-meat casings, cheese and dairy packs, frozen/oily food laminates, spice/flavor sachets and selected pharma blister auxiliary layers.

  • Industrial laminates & liners: chemical-resistant spacers, gasket/shim stock, diaphragm and membrane supports, and protective interlayers in harsh-environment assemblies.

  • Cable and wire harness protection: abrasion-resistant, low-friction sleeve/tape stock in automotive, offshore and industrial settings.

  • Sports, leisure and consumer components: flexible high-abrasion surfaces, wear-strip applications and selected transparent/translucent structural films where low moisture drift is critical.

Important note on compliance

PA12 film can be specified for food-contact or indirect-food-contact barrier layers, but regulatory approval depends on the exact grade, any coating/primer, and the finished laminate structure. Tell us your end-use, seal method and whether direct/indirect food contact applies — we will align documentation (FDA/EU/REACH/RoHS pathways, GB-series references where applicable) per batch and structure.
