PEI (Polyetherimide) Film – High-Temperature, High-Strength Specialty Engineering Film
CaiLong PEI Film is a high-performance, amorphous specialty polymer film processed via precision extrusion/casting, positioned for applications that demand continuous high-temperature stability, excellent electrical insulation and inherent flame resistance — while remaining thinner, lighter and more formable than metal or ceramic alternatives. It is often selected where standard PET/PC cannot survive long-term heat, chemicals or demanding safety requirements, and where PI film cost or moisture sensitivity must be balanced.
Why engineers specify PEI film (selection highlights)
-
Long-term service temperature capability around 170–180 °C continuous-use class, with short-term peaks higher; retains mechanical/electrical properties far better than common transparent films in heated assemblies.
-
Inherent flame resistance without halogen additives: typically UL 94 V-0 / 5VA-class behavior (verify by thickness/grade and certification file). Low smoke / low toxicity character supports aerospace, rail, defense and clean-critical environments.
-
Strong dielectric performance: high dielectric strength and volume resistivity, stable over temperature — suitable as thin insulating barriers, spacers and covers in high-temp electrical systems.
-
Good chemical resistance and hydrolytic stability vs many engineering plastics: resists common industrial fluids, oils and humidity cycling better than you’d expect from “just a plastic film.”
-
Very low moisture absorption (~0.25% level) → dimensional and electrical stability in humid/hot cycles; faster drying/conditioning vs moisture-sensitive alternatives.
What we supply & how it’s used (convertibility)
-
Supplied as rolls/film stock: customizable thickness, width/slit, roll length, and surface finish (smooth/matte, optional primer/release or topcoat discussed case-by-case).
-
Compatible with slitting, die-cutting, punching, laminating and heat/pressure shaping in many designs (always validate with your adhesive/process before scaling).
Typical application fields (the intent buyers search for)
-
Electrical & electronics insulation: high-temp slot liners, phase/spacer insulation, coil/transformer insulating barriers, flexible circuit support layers, coverlay/overlay where UL & heat matter.
-
Aerospace / defense / rail interiors: lightweight insulating shims, cable/harness protection, equipment interior shields where flame/smoke/toxicity rules apply.
-
Industrial & semiconductor support: sensor diaphragms, spacer/insulating gaskets, fixture liners, process-area labels/marking overlays exposed to heat/chemicals.
-
Premium appliances & motors: insulating barriers near heating elements or motor hot spots where long-term reliability is the spec.
Important selection note
PEI is powerful, but not a universal drop-in for every polyimide (PI) use-case: if your application requires extreme continuous >200°C + ultra-low outgassing + NASA-level PI traceability, we will help you compare PEI vs PI and pick the safest spec. Final suitability must be confirmed under your actual voltage, creep, chemical and thermal cycle — we can support with grade selection, samples and batch documentation.
