Acrylic (PMMA) & Polycarbonate (PC) Film / Sheet – High-Clarity Engineering Plastics, PC/PMMA Composite Panels
CaiLong supplies a complete range of transparent engineering plastic films and sheets centered on two of the most specified clear polymers in industry: PMMA (Polymethyl Methacrylate / Acrylic) and PC (Polycarbonate), plus their co-extruded composite structures (PC/PMMA) that combine the best of both materials. This category is built for buyers who need "glass-like clarity" plus the impact safety, lightweight, and formability that only engineering plastics can deliver.
What falls under this category
(A) PMMA (Acrylic) Sheet & Film
-
Often called "organic glass," PMMA delivers the highest light transmission among common plastics — up to 92% — with excellent surface hardness, scratch resistance (vs. uncoated PC), and outstanding weatherability for indoor and outdoor glazing or display use.
-
Available in clear, frosted, colored and textured finishes; suitable for CNC routing, laser cutting, polishing, bending and fabrication into sight windows, lenses, signage panels and decorative glazing.
(B) PC Film & Sheet (Polycarbonate)
-
The toughness leader: far more impact-resistant than acrylic and safer than glass in public/industrial spaces. PC sheet covers optical-grade (high transmission, low haze, low thermal shrinkage), printing-grade (excellent ink adhesion for nameplates/panels/advertising), and flame-retardant grades (UL 94 V-0 / V-2 type options) for electrical enclosures, instrument shrouds and transportation interiors.
-
CaiLong PC film is produced by melt-extrusion / cast processes with tight thickness and shrinkage control; supports die-cutting, slitting, thermoforming and laminating.
(C) PC/PMMA Composite Film & Sheet (Co-extruded — key differentiator)
-
CaiLong's co-extrusion process puts PMMA as the outer skin (hardness, wear-resistance, gloss) and PC as the inner core (toughness, ductility, impact absorption) in a single integrated sheet — no adhesive layer needed, so there is no delamination risk from residual solvent and no extra interface to fail.
-
Result: a high-transparency "glass-replacement" panel that can be 3D-formed, textured, printed and — after surface-hardcoating — survive smartphone/portable-device drop scenarios far better than plain glass or plain PMMA.
-
Primary application cluster: consumer electronics (smartphone back covers, protective shells, touch/display lenses), automotive interior trims & instrument panels (IMD/FIM high-pressure forming), and premium helmet / wearable / tech-accessory housings.
How to choose between PMMA, PC and PC/PMMA
-
Pick PMMA when: visual clarity, surface polish, weatherability and scratch-resistance matter most, and the panel is not in a high-impact zone.
-
Pick PC when: impact safety, fall/stone-strike risk, or flame-retardant compliance drives the spec, and you can manage surface care (coating or controlled handling).
-
Pick PC/PMMA composite when: you want the premium "glass look + glossy/hard-wearing surface" but must pass drop/durability tests, or you are doing IMD-FIM formed parts where a single-sheet solution simplifies inventory vs. bonding separate films.
Key performance notes (material-level reference)
-
PMMA: light transmission ~92%, Tg around 105°C, excellent UV/outdoor behavior; vulnerable to ketones and strong aromatics.
-
PC: continuous-use roughly up to ~115–125°C class, excellent toughness over a wide temp range, inherently V-2 to V-0 achievable by formulation; more sensitive to scratching without hardcoat.
-
PC/PMMA composite: engineered to deliver HD transparent finish + toughened reliability; surface hardness can be further raised to 4H–6H class after hardcoat treatment (process-dependent).
Availability & customization
We supply in rolls (film gauges) and cut sheets/panels, with options on thickness, width/length, surface texture (gloss, matte, haircell, custom emboss), color (clear, smoke, opal, custom), and optional hardcoat/anti-reflective/anti-fingerprint top layers discussed case-by-case. Fabrication support (cut-to-size, routing, sample plaques) available.
Tell us your application (glazing / signage / electrical panel / electronics housing / automotive interior / consumer device), size envelope, and any regulatory targets (UL, RoHS, REACH, food-contact indirect, indoor/outdoor), and we will route you to the right grade: PMMA, PC, or PC/PMMA composite.
